 Sufficiency Economy Scale or SES-9

Sufficiency Economy Scale created based on His Majesty the King Bhumibol’s Sufficiency Economy theory. The theory that includes moderation, prudence, virtues and social immunity. Such attributes are based on the ten Royal’s Virtues and ten perfections, a path of the bodhisattva and arahants.

Psychometric property

The SES-9 was tested with a small sample of 30, and found a Cronbach's alpha of 0.75.

Coding and scoring

 Please note, Item 1 3 5 7 8 are reversed scored (i.e., 1 = 7, 2 = 6, 3 = 5, 5 = 3, 6 = 2, and 7 = 1). Reverse score items prior to computing domain and total means. SES-9 scores range from 9 to 63.

Interpretation

            In general, the higher the score, the more the Sufficiency Economy is indicated. No cut-off score, however, we could use the distribution of scores based on the respective sample. For example, a high vs. low level of SES-9 score, or a level of SES-9 among the samples could be grouped in three categories: “low” for scores below the 25th percentile, “average” for scores ranging from the 25th to the 75th percentile and “high” for scores above the 75th percentile.
